Bringing the Family Closer Together on a Family Holiday

Do you find that in your everyday life you don’t spend as much time with your family as you’d like? I definitely don’t get to spend as much time with mine as I’d like. With the kids in school and then all their after school activities and spending time with friends, it’s great to see them enjoying themselves but I’d like to see more of them myself. A bit selfish, I know, but they’re my kids and they grow up so quickly as it is!

So, to resolve a little of this problem I make sure we go on a family holiday at least once a year. It’s a great time to really catch up with each other and share stories of our daily lives and find out what’s really going on. It’s also a relaxing environment where the kids can tell us any problems they’re having that they might not have mentioned otherwise.

We ban the TV and games consoles and make the trip about enjoying ourselves as a family. Although the kids moan about the lack of technology allowed to begin with, once they get out enjoying themselves they soon forget about it all. Last year we tried horse riding and this year we’re all looking forward to having a go at Zorbing! We also enjoy the usual things like walking or going to the beach or fun fairs or the zoo, basically any family activity you can think of!

Sharing these memories from the holidays each year really helps us to bond as a family. With every one usually so busy it’s important for us to take some time out and spend it with each other.

Even if we can’t make it abroad we make sure we take a break here in the UK. This year is one of those times and although it doesn’t instantly sound appealing to many people, there are some really great places to visit in our own country! We’ve been to Wales, Scotland, various places in England and the kids have enjoyed each of them. The weather hasn’t always been great when we’ve been to these places but we still had fun. If you’ve got the right clothing you barely notice a bit of rain!

I still remember my childhood holidays fondly, as does my husband. We’re hoping these great holiday memories will be lasting for all the family and we can look back on them in years to come.

How do you bring your family closer together?
